Objectives
|
Provincial Poison Control Centre will cover 5 important areas to improve already existing facilities to manage a case of poisoning.

1- INFORMATION |
General Public will be provided with complete information regarding any poison on
a phone call from anywhere in Punjab through a help line installed in Allied hospital
Faisalabad. On similar grounds, doctors managing cases of poisoning will have help
regarding any poison, its management, its anti-dote & prognosis.
A national datasheet on 'Chemical Safety of Drugs' will be available on
www.emedpak.com and complete information on National Poison Control
Centre Karachi & Provincial Poison Control Centre Peshawar will also be available
on 'Electronic Medicine (emed)'.

2- PREVENTION & AWARENESS |
Best efforts will be made to reduce the number of poisoning cases coming to emergency departments of the hospitals. Community Medicine department PMC will help in creating awareness in people regarding Pesticides, Insecticides, Medicine overdose, Household poisons. Forensic Medicine PMC will help in creating awareness regarding Legislation on dangerous drugs with the help of concerned & related departments. All the departments & corners dealing Pesticides, Chemicals in all types of industries or manufacturing or providing such chemicals will be involved in creating awareness. Electronic & paper media will be involved in these awareness drives.

3- MANAGEMENT |
|
An 8-bed block is under construction in Emergency block of Allied hospital & expected to be functioning by June 30th 2004. This Poison Control Centre will be under the control of Medical Unit-1 of Allied hospital headed by Prof Dr Irshad ul Haq. The medical team of this ward will be managing all the poisoning cases.
In second stage, it is planned to build an 'Antidote-Bank' in Medical unit-1 to give specific treatment to the patients.

4- INVESTIGATION |
|
A laboratory will be built in Pathology department of Allied hospital to isolate the type of poison that will further enhance the facilities provided to the patients. This lab will be best equipped & specifically will be working under Poison Control Centre.

5- RESEARCH CELL |
A Research Cell already situated in Forensic Medicine department under the charge of Head of Forensic Medicine, Dr Ahmad Saeed & has started working on various Research projects on poisoning. Community Medicine department PMC & Medicine department will also carry out their reasearch projects.
