With reference to emed’s project ‘Coordinated School Health Program’, a team of doctors organized a ‘Health Seminar’ at the Beacon house System of Schools, New Garden Town Branch Lahore, on 28.9.2009, during ‘Health Week’ celebrations by the school.

The seminar was mediated with active coordination of emed coordinator in the school, Mrs Rabia Faraz, who has always shown energy & motivation to dispense health education to the children.

Prof Ahmad Bilal, Assistant Professor Dr Khurram Raja & Assistant Professor Dr Humaira Arshad, Dr Fahad & Dr Naeem were received by the Senior Mistress of the branch, Mrs Timna Kenath with her staff & student members & briefed the doctors on the on-going health week in the school.

The emed doctors had very lively & interactive sessions with Grade-5 children on ‘Healthy life style’, ‘House hold Poisons’ and ‘Prevention from Common Diseases’. Children showed interest & high level of understanding & response to the vital health information. Famous Pakistani singer & emed member, Ali Sher, also joined the session or sometime & gifted the children with a song.

Also, an emed Health Camp was arranged for the teachers & other staff members of the school offering them free testing in blood sugar & cholesterol levels, bone mineral density (BMD), body mass index (BMI) & blood calcium levels. Dr Fahad & Dr Naeem were deputed to give free medical advice after tests.

emed doctors & staff members were introduced to the Principal of the branch, Mrs Riffat Shahid who thanked the emed team for coming all the way to Lahore from Faisalabad on the request of the school administration.

In the end, Dr Khurram Raja introduced emed to the teaching staff & Prof Ahmad Bilal had a special session with them on ‘The Vitamin-D deficiency & the diseases associated with the deficiency’. The audience termed the lecture by Prof Ahmad Bilal as the eye opener & very informative.

Mrs Timna Kenathm on behalf of all her staff members, thanked the emed team on their dedication & self less service for the public by educating them on health issues. She also presented a souvenir to the President emed.

Prof Ahmad Bilal & Dr Khurram Raja thanked the administration on their invitation & hospitality, Mrs Afia Quraishe on the wonderful arrangements and emed coordinator, Mrs Rabia Faraz whose sincere efforts led to the introduction of emed in a Lahore branch of Beacon House School.
