When call was made by the Health Department Government of Punjab for the medical staff to join the teams from all over Punjab to the medical camp established by the Punjab Government at District Mardan, the emed doctors including Dr Humaira Arshad, Dr Khurram Raja & Dr Mudassar Faiza voluntarily gave their names to the Principal Punjab Medical College to serve the IDPs at the Mardan Medical Camp.
What was their performance in Mardan, is anybody’s guess, as Chief Minister Punjab awarded a gold medal to the Vice President emed Dr Humaira Arshad & a certificate of excellence to Dr Khurram Raja. Dr Humaira established labor room in Mardan camp & delivered 1st child through a caesarian section that was named as Shahbaz Sharif Khan. Dr Khurram was termed as best team leader among all the teams from all over Punjab.
The awards ceremony was held on 24.6.2009 in the Chief Minister Secretariat Lahore where the medical teams from all over Punjab during 1st month were invited by the Chief Minister over a cup of tea. In his opening speech, Secretary Health, Mr Anwar Ahmad Khan gave the statistics of the medical camp to the audience. He told that in total 614 medical staff personnel served IDPs in the Mardan camp. Out of these, 123 were the male doctors & 73 were the lady doctors. He also stated that 1,002,08 patients were examined, 263 children were delivered out of which 53 were the caesarian sections, 288 other surgical procedures were conducted. He also told that medicines worth ten crore rupees were distributed in the IDPs.
In his address Chief Minister Punjab, Mian Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the motivation & hard work by the medical staff members and termed the services as appreciable achievement for the public of NWFP province. He specially congratulated the performance of Director General Health Punjab Dr Mohammad Aslam, Director Health Services Punjab Dr Islam Zafar & other team members for their self less & continuous efforts for the welfare of the IDPs. Chief Minister announced a bonus pay of one month for all the staff members & awarded appreciation letters to them.
Also present on the occasion were Zulfiqar Khosa, Dost Mohammad Khosa, Ishaq Dar, Dr Shafiq Sarwar, Mrs Zaqia Shahnawaz, Dr Saeed Elahi, Saba Sadiq & other dignitaries.
