Global health organization emed celebrated ‘International Nursing Day’ on 18.5.2009 in the Auditorium of Punjab Medical College Faisalabad, Pakistan. It was heavily participated by hundreds of nurses from Allied School of Nursing & Allied Hospital Faisalabad who presented speeches, poems & interesting skits projecting the devotion, sacrifice, hard work & problems of the profession of nursing.
On the occasion, beside the presence of the Medical Superintendent of Allied Hospital Dr Bashir Ahmad, Chief Nursing Superintendent Allied Hospital Mrs Kausar Awan & Principal Allied School of Nursing Mrs Perveen Akhtar, Principal Punjab Medical College/Allied Hospital/DHQ Hospital Prof Riaz Hussain Dub attended the function as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the hundreds of nurses, Prof Riaz Hussain Dub narrated the incidence when he under went cardiac surgery & was regaining consciousness, he said that a smiley face nurse just like his daughter congratulated him on having a new life. He said, “I don’t remember who gave me anesthesia or how he was operated on his heart, but I remember that nurse who took care of me when I was recovering”. Prof Riaz Dub congratulated emed on organizing the first nursing event in Faisalabad on such a big scale & desired to keep the tradition in the future.
President emed Prof Ahmad Bilal paid tribute to the nurses in a very high manner & narrated the incidence of a nurse that he called ‘Staff Khawar Nightingale’ who treated the Ex-Governor of Punjab, General Jailani & then in return was able to persuade him to build a new modern hostel block for the nurses in the Mayo Hospital Lahore.
In the later session the emed & other nurses presented a very colorful program of poems, skits & tablo. The audience appreciated the performance time & again. A poem by a 2nd year nurse, Miss Sabira Yousaf, stole the show when in her poem, she reflected the multi faceted problems of a nurse in our society.
In the end, General Secretary emed, Dr Khurram Sohail Raja defined the health team of emed comprising of doctors, medical students, nurses, para medics & public. He congratulated all the nurses and their Heads, on the success of their program & paid tribute to the emed organizing team of Prof Ahmad Bilal, Dr Humaira Arshad & two students, Samia Ijaz & Sidra Majeed who despite of a busy academic schedule took the time out for the compeering of the program.
