Health Camp at Al-Bari Hospital Faisalabad on 4.11.2008

On the special request from member advisory council emed, Associate Professor Dr Zahid Masood, emed organized a giant health camp at Al-Bari Hospital Faisalabad on 3.11.2008, in which emed teams from mobile educational unit of city traffic police & Rescue 1122 participated.

It was a unique set up of multiple awareness objectives when people availed screening tests on sugar, cholesterol, bone mineral density, body mass index, and Doppler test. They got specialist advice by consultant doctors & specialist nutritionist. With all that people had demonstrations & literature on road safety, traffic rules, driving & demonstrations on first aid & voluntary membership for civil defence.

The results of screening tests were very revealing. Almost 70% people were Vit D deficient, 60-70% were calcium deficient, more than 50% were obese with excessive visceral fat. About 20% came to know for the first time that they were diabetic or hypertensive. 40% of the people didn't know that their cholesterol levels were dangerously high. Talking on the occasion, Prof Ahmad Bilal told media that results of the screening tests should be eye opener for our health authorities & for the government.

Dr Zahid Masood said that coming years will be very testing for our people as far as our deteriorating health standards are concerned. Dr Khurram Raja said that awareness campaign by emed is first of its kind in Faisalabad & we are getting numerous offers to join hands to make these campaigns even more effective & extensive.

Camp started at 4 p.m. & continued till 12 in the midnight & 742 people were screened.

Comments by Dr Zahid Masood Khan: Camp was well organized, started on time, drained nearly 700 person’s children young and old male and females, very useful tests were offered all for free, incorporation of 1122 and traffic wardens was innovation appreciated by participants. Camp started around 3.30 pm and ended due repeated power failure past 00.00 am. Remaining was advised to come on 9th at D ground. It was non stop 9 hours camp. Successful due to team work. Thanks EMED and APDES. Blue shading of building was another salient feature. Arrangements were of high standard.
