Health Camp & Awareness Lectures at Government Degree College for Girls, Ghulam Mohammad Abad, Faisalabad

emed doctors & students have launched a massive & energetic campaign of public awareness & health camping in various educational institution of Faisalabad (Pakistan), during the running year & as part of the campaign, on 26.2.2008, Government Degree College for Girls, Ghulam Mohammad Abad was selected on the request of the Principal of the college, Mrs Imtiaz Rauf.

Student girls of 1st year to the 4th year had never witnessed a camp in which they could undertake FREE tests up to Rs.10,000/- in the market. It was new & discovering for them to assess the strength of their bones by the estimation of body calcium. Other tests included bone mineral density, blood sugar & cholesterol.

Prof Ahmad Bilal, Dr Khurram Raja, Dr Yasir Yaqoob, Dr Shahid, represented the emed team while nutritionist Mrs Abida Omer specially attended the camp & delivered a very useful lecture to the students about the calcium & its importance in later stages of a woman’s life. Mrs Abida Omer, MSc in Nutrition, served 2 years in John Hopkins University, USA & currently working in Pakistan as a specialist nutritionist.

Along with the camping, Dr Khurram Raja introduced emed & its objectives & Prof Ahmad Bilal delivered lecture on ‘Healthy Lifestyle’.

Students of 4 classes showed extreme interest in getting knowledge on a healthy life style & actively participated in giving feed back on the dietary trends & physical activity of their family members, ratio of heart patients, diabetics & hypertensive in their families & how they can improve their life style.

The camp was extended for another day on the request of the Principal, Mrs Imtiaz Rauf who thanked emed doctors, stressed the need of such camps in the educational institutions & was sure that the emed camp will definitely help the teaching staff & students in the coming days.

The teaching staff of the college attended the lecture with interest & undertook free tests.
