emed Safe Disposal Program (ESD)

1ST activity with the Administrative teams on 7.8.2008


 

When Director Department of medical education, Punjab medical college Faisalabad, Pakistan, Dr Mussarat ul Husnain showed his interest in hospital waste management, it was decided that he will be heading an emed safe disposal (ESD) which will start a major campaign in the city and will be started from Allied hospital Faisalabad.

 

With the permission of Principal Punjab medical college, Prof Asghar Ali Randhawa, the meeting was organized on 7.8.2008, with the administrative teams of Allied and DHQ hospitals.

 

Mr Principal specially attended the meeting along with the Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS) DHQ hospital, Dr (Capt.) Mumtaz Ahmad, Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS) Allied hospital, Dr Khalid Fakhar, Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) DHQ hospital, Dr Qiser Abbas, Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) Allied hospital, Dr Aslam Zahid, Assistant Professor Community Medicine, Dr Anwar Sulehri, Assistant Professor Forensic Medicine, Dr Humaira Arshad, Admin Registrar Medical Unit-III Allied hospital, Dr Mohammad Arshad & Registrar Medical Unit-III Allied hospital, Dr Mohammad Irfan.

 

General Secretary emed, Dr Khurram Raja presented emed with respect to its aim, mission & awareness activities.

 

President emed, Prof Ahmad Bilal presented ‘Hazards of the hospital waste’ & Dr Mussarat ul Hasnain presented ‘emed safe disposal program’ along with hazards of the incinerators & how hospital waste can be disposed off on cost effective bases.

 

“It will cost only Rs.20/- per day in a ward to dispose off the waste 7 system is running very successfully in India & in city Jhang of Pakistan” ….. Dr Mussarat ul Husnain

 

In his comments, Prof Asghar Ali Randhawa appreciated emed & the efforts made by Prof Ahmad Bilal & Dr Khurram Raja for creating awareness in medical & public circles.

 

He proposed Medical Unit-III as model ward where this disposal program can be initiated & thanked Dr Mussarat for creating sensitization in the administrative teams of the institutional hospitals. He also promised to take the idea on long term bases.

 

It was followed by an interactive session on the topic by the audience & Dr Mussarat answered the questions with reference to his experience.
