“Diabetes mellitus: Better known just as "diabetes" -- a chronic disease associated with abnormally high levels of the sugar glucose in the blood. Diabetes is due to one of two mechanisms:
(1) Inadequate production of insulin (which is made by the pancreas and lowers blood glucose) or
(2) Inadequate sensitivity of cells to the action of insulin.”
Health camp started at 3:00 p.m & rush started from the very start. Media people visited the place to see the participation of the public & motivation offered by doctors team of emed & All Pakistan Diabetes & Endocrine Society included Prof Ahmad Bilal, Dr Khurram Raja, Dr Ahmad Zeeshan, Dr Tauseef, Dr Tayyaba, Dr Uzma & Dr Asma. Free screening tests of sugar, cholesterol, test on bone mineral density & condition of blood vessels of legs (Doppler test) continued till midnight & total number of patients received in the camp was 1,768. Out of these 27% patients knew for the first time that they have high sugar or cholesterol levels.
