Regional Coordinator World Health Organization (WHO) Mr Ahmad Faraz Shadool and WHO representative Dr Khizar Ashraf visited Provincial Poison Control Centre in the Allied Hospital Faisalabad on 18.5.2010.

 

They were warmly received by the Head of Medical Department in Punjab Medical College Faisalabad and In charge of the Poison Control Centre, Prof Zahid Yaseen Hashmie along with President emed and In charge Medical Unit-II, Prof Ahmad Bilal, Coordinator Poison Control Centre from Federal Ministry Health and WHO, Dr Khurram Sohail Raja, Assistant Professor Medical Unit-I, Dr Amer Shaukat, Admin Registrar Medical Unit-I, Dr Mohammad Irfan along with the doctors of the medical wards. Before the formal session, Prof Hashmie and Prof Ahmad Bilal briefed the guests on the research activities of the Medical Department. Prof Bilal showed them his work on ‘Vitamin-D deficiency’ and also conducted the blood tests of the guests.

 

The honorable guests attended the introductory session in which Dr Khurram Raja presented brief History and the Working of the Poison Control Centre along with the Preventive campaign of emed against the poisoning cases and Dr Mohammad Irfan presented Wheat Pill Poisoning cases in the centre.

 

Dr Shadool appreciated the working of the centre and declared that preventive campaign of emed is best in Pakistan as he had never came across a better campaign in Pakistan. Prof Zahid Yaseen Hashmie concluded the session and took the honorable guests to visit the Poison Control Centre, the affiliated laboratory facilities, the Children wards in Allied and DHQ Hospitals and the Liver Centre in DHQ hospital. Dr Shadool appreciated the networking of the Poison Control Centre and also termed the Liver Centre as the state of Art in providing facilities to the patients of the Liver diseases.

 

Principal Punjab Medical College Faisalabad, Prof Riaz Hussain Dub briefed the guests on the academic and research activities in the institution. The meeting was also attended by the PMRS officials, IT department staff members and Prof Zahid Iqbal. The guests and the Principal Punjab Medical College Faisalabad, Prof Riaz Hussain Dub later participated in the awareness walk on ‘Hepatitis Day’ organized by the Liver Centre under the supervision of Prof Zahid Yaseen Hashmie and Dr Mohammad Irfan
