emed has welcomed its new zealous and motivated counterparts in Lahore during a meeting held on the 24th of March, 2010. Dr Khurram Sohail Raja introduced the ideology of emed to students of Services Institute of Medical Sciences and many showed keenness to join the cause of emed. As a result of the nascent concept of emed amongst students ten students had registered by preliminary membership upon recommendation of their peers. Dr Khurram, on his visit to Lahore, took out time to meet these preliminary members in person and shared his ideas about what emed meant and what members could do to help the cause. One of the salient features of Dr Khurram's explanation was an anecdote of the revered Mr. Abdul Sattar Edhi who is known for his selfless devotion to those in need. Dr Khurram mentioned Mr. Edhi's idea of helping mankind was to do one's job in an honest way as opposed to quitting work and volunteering. Therefore the take home message was to think out ways to help people as medical students and doctors. The profession of medicine indeed bestows us with an enormous influence and responsibility to use our powers to bring health and prosperity in our society.
Towards the end Dr Khurram announced the nominations of the emed Lahore city coordinator (Kheyal Azam Khalil), the Services Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) female coordinator (Qurat ul ain Khan) and male coordinator (Usman Zakir). The team of students at SIMS is to work under the kind supervision of Dr Zia ud Din (Head of Forensic Department, SIMS) and Dr Arif Rasheed Malik agreed to supervise a team in King Edward Medical College Lahore. SIMS students have worked on a survey about the use of information technology amongst medical students which served as an introduction of emed to their fellow students. Currently they are working on a multi-centered undergraduate research project in Punjab Institute of Cardiology Lahore for emed supervised by Dr Ahmed Bilal.
